Frequently Asked Questions
What do I need to do to prepare for my laser hair appointment?
To receive the best treatment possible, there are several things that we recommend. Please do NOT wax, tweeze, thread or Nair the hair prior to your appointment. The hair needs to be present for laser attachment, but it also needs to be very short. You should either shave the day of or the night before. Please do not get excessive sun exposure, tanning exposure, a spray tan, or use tanning creams 14 days prior to your appointment.
How long will my results from laser hair removal last?
Laser hair removal can be permanent if the hair follicles are completely destroyed. If the hair follicle is just damaged rather than destroyed, the hair will eventually grow back. After undergoing 6 to 8 laser hair removal treatments, you should be able to enjoy minimal hair regrowth anywhere from 1-3 years. Sometimes regrowth will occur between 6 to 12 months. Touch-up treatments can be scheduled to maintain optimal results.
Can you treat all skin types?
Yes. Our laser hair removal machines work with all skin types. We just can’t treat skin recently exposed to excessive sun or sunburned skin. Laser hair removal does not work with blonde hair, grey hair or vellus/fine hair (peach fuzz). We recommend you come in for a complimentary consultation to determine if you’re a candidate for treatment. If you are a candidate, we will answer any questions, discuss options and develop your personalized treatment plan.
What can I expect during a laser hair removal treatment?
Laser hair removal is treated with a non-ablative laser device using heat. The treatments are typically quick enough to do on your lunch hour. However, there will be some slight sensitivity and discomfort during the treatment. We do not sell or provide topical anesthetic products, however you are allowed to use your own anesthetic products during the treatment. There is a cooling system used as the laser pulses to help keep skin cool and protected from the heat.
Are there side effects to laser hair removal?
Laser hair removal is a safe procedure that most people find relatively painless. There are some minor side effects that could arise after treatment including redness, mild crusting of the skin, or slight changes in skin color on the treated area. All side effects are temporary and should not bring too much discomfort.
How many treatments are needed for permanent hair reduction?
It typically takes 6 to 8 treatments to achieve 65-90% permanent hair reduction. This number varies from person to person and also depends on the areas being treated. There are three stages of hair growth — Anagen (active), Catagen (transitional) and Telogen (resting). At any given time, hair follicles are transitioning through all three stages. The Anagen Stage (active) is what we need to treat to fully destroy the hair follicle for permanent removal.
Is there downtime after the treatment?
No. However, we do recommend that you stay away from excessive exercise, hot baths and showers, saunas, etc. for about 24-48 hours so that you do not have a chance of heat rash. Heat rash can last until the hair falls out. You will know if you are experiencing heat rash if the skin becomes itchy or you have a mild to moderate rash. You can reduce these symptoms by applying aloe vera, cortisone cream and keeping the area cool.
Why do I have to wait so long in between treatments?
It typically takes 10 to 12 days for you to see the full ejection phase from the hair after each treatment. Your skin will be smooth and hair free for several weeks before regrowth starts to reoccur. We want to make sure that you have enough hair growth to retreat at each appointment.
Does laser hair removal work on Blonde, Strawberry Blonde, or gray hair?
Laser hair removal is designed to attach to color in the pigment of hair. Unfortunately this is a treatment that is not successful for blonde, strawberry blonde, or gray hair. The hair needs to be darker for the laser to be successful. If you have brown or black hair you are a great candidate for laser hair removal. We do encourage our clients to schedule a free consultation if you are unsure if this will be the right procedure for you.
